www/ikiwiki built fine on the same system with Perl 5.16.3 a couple weeks ago.

lang/perl5 has typically passed all (or nearly all) of its self-tests. After 
the 5.18.0 upgrade, it fails a couple dozen tests on NetBSD/i386, from -current 
back through at least 6.1 (and possibly older). Collected test results:

The number of test failures in 5.18.0 on i386:

* is cause for concern
* probably correlates to the ikiwiki build hang
* suggests that fixing the failures is likely to head off other real problems
