"png" is a non-default option to "freetype2". Is it possible that you
built freetype2 without that option, and then changed your defaults
afterwards?
I.e. does the output from:
pkg_info -Q PKG_OPTIONS freetype2
... include "png"?
If not, then freetype2 was build before the "png" option was specified.
The solution then is to rebuild freetype2.
