I'm not concerned about it myself, but I can imagine a scenario where
someone is used to gedit 2 and wants to try out gedit 3 to compare.
How likely that is, who knows; not a big deal.

This appears to be a case then where packages don't necessarily match
the documentation, e.g. editors/abiword (which I was looking at in
detail of late) uses CONFLICTS redundantly if I understand the
stipulation/expectation correctly. (And I'd inferred it was for explicit
documentation purposes as well.)
