Allow me to disagree. Why the hell do you want to build without all these things? 

- zlib is tiny, for one.
- freetype and fontconfig make GD much less useful, as you cannot draw text.
- Why would you build without jpeg, png and tiff? There are so many things that depend on these three that you are likely to have them on your system anyway.
