Unfortunately, there are a couple such reports, of g95 not working on linux.
There are two issues here,
g95 is known to be problematic on linux (and some less common architectures, etc.), for which we would recommend PKGSRC_FORTRAN=gfortran, which compiles with newer GCC, that is more likely to work, but still bad on many platforms...
... specifically, Debian is extra problematic, because they made some changes of location of files such as crti.o, which is not located in /usr/lib as expected by the package itself, instead it is in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/. So older gcc will not compile.
If you would like a fortran 95 implementation, you can install gfortran from debian's packages and it will just work as a workaround.
I will close the duplicate reports and leave the one by bsiegert open.
