 I've done some further investigation, and discovered that the problem 
 occurs because cupsd fails to start!  Obviously, if libreoffice wants to 
 talk to cupsd, it will hang!
 
 The problem appears to be related to the new cupsd.conf that gets 
 installed with cups-2.2.2
 
 I will attempt to investigate further.
