I understand in 2006 (when this bug was filed), gdb6 was the newer version, so you wanted a newer version. this is no longer true, and gdb6 is 'some older gdb'. wanting to catch up and update it to the latest gdb6 is a little silly now. we have gdb 8.0 in devel/gdb. additionally, I'd object to disabling tui (I use it extensively). Sorry your patch was not applied at the time it was relevant.
