 Thanks for the new builtin.mk. I (still) get
 
 $ bmake show-var VARNAME=BUILDLINK_PREFIX.mpfr
 /usr
 
 in print/luatex. Only with
 
 PREFER_PKGSRC = mpfr
 
 I get
 
 $ bmake show-var VARNAME=BUILDLINK_PREFIX.mpfr
 /opt/pkg-hrz/20180102
 
 So builtin.mk probably works as intended, but I still need to work 
 around the fact that the builtin mpfr is not good enough in some cases.
