 I applied jperkin@'s patch and modified it to do the same for Darwin
 Mach-O. The problem can now be safely considered to be resolved. I'm
 going to port it to lang/ghc90 as well. (I'll probably skip ghc810
 because there is no reason why one would want to use it, given that we
 now have ghc90 which supports wider platforms than ghc810.)

 Unfortunately, that isn't the code path which is used while building GHC
 itself. It's for building user code using the resulting compiler.
