Since jed has been updated to 0.99.19 it doesn't work any more, e.g.

$ jed --help
Unable to open compress.  Check the value of the S-Lang load path.

Could also be an issue with libslang2

BTW, just compiling libslang2 2.3.3 and jed 0.99.19 from upstream sources seems to work.
