It's actually to do with CURSES_DEFAULT. I'm currently using the
default 'curses', but if I set it to 'ncurses' which still uses the
builtin implementation then it works fine.
The package has some odd logic for each curses type, I haven't yet
found the root cause, and for now am just overriding CURSES_DEFAULT to
get it building.
