No - you made 2 changes.   One was a change to the distfile (filename)
itself.   That one seems to have been largely a no-op (and there probably
was no mirror with any kind of fault).

The other change was to the checksum recorded in the distinfo file.
That one was required.   The checksum that used to be there, and the
size of the file that used to be recorded, didn't match the file that
was being distributed (maybe they were for the original gnome splashscreen
without the advert for pkgsrc added in ?)
