In mixminion-0.0.8alpha2's README-0.0.8alpha2:

NEW SINCE MIXMINION 0.0.7.1:
   ...
   - Numerous bugfixes:
     - Implement DESTDIR correctly.
     - Do not crash when run with python 2.4

So, mixminion-0.0.7.1 wouldn't run with Python 2.4.
