In the interim, Rust 1.42 also built successfully for me on
9.99.44/amd64, with the rust-llvm option supplied. I don't see it among
the build failures for the latest bulk builds for 9.0/amd64[1], which I
imagine uses the default settings (build with external LLVM). I'll try
building it with external LLVM on 9.0 as well.

I've added a description of that option you'll see now with "make show-
options". (There's also a brief comment about it in Rust's options.mk.)
