kerberos option and default?

How do people feel about kerberos being default  on as an option?  Long
ago, it seemed like kerberos was common at big sites, and now it seems
less common and also that pkgsrc heimdal is causing problems, e..g
openjdk8 is not building.

So I wonder about taking steps like removing kerberos from
PKG_SUGGESTED_OPTIONS to cause heimdal not to get installed so much.

Of course, maybe some people want it, and aren't already building custom
packages for their site.  The real question is if those people are real
vs theoretical and how to balance the total pain vs the total benefit.

So if you are using stock binary packges and actually using kerberos
support, please speak up.
