Old language iterations (was: wip/pkgchkxx: a complete reimplementation of pkg_chk and pkg_rolling-replace)

Err, what? I don't think that applies to Perl (or POSIX shell, for that matter).
Did Perl get unpopular because it doesn't introduce incompatible changes at a high enough rate?
