Is this really necessary?

I had not seen this failure with my rust183 builds before the change
in late January, nor in the last couple days while re-applying my
cross-build changes to rust181 thorugh rust184 in wip.

I suspect you may have seen this in the short period during which the
builder.rs patch to replace $ORIGIN/.. by @PREFIX@ was missing:

If so, I think this change should be reverted.
