There is one unresolved issue: fbpanel's Makefile explicitly 
specifies requiring -Wl,-export-dynamic:

    # Fixing broken compile because of changed gcc defaults
    LDFLAGS+= -Wl,-export-dynamic

I've tried building fbpanel without it on -current, and it works
fine.  But I'm not sure what the implications are of removing this.

(For those who've never used fbpanel, it's a task bar providing a
variety of features as dynamically-loaded plugins.  The above
LDFLAGS *were* presumably necessary for the plugins, but may not
be required any more?)
