Upon thinking about it more, I've decided that it is probably a
Linux kernel problem rather than a Linux X server problem.
E.g. the X server is starved for CPU cycles (or something) when it
shouldn't be.

Unfortunately it still doesn't get far enough to be useful, even
after a fair amount of hacking.

I'm told that the XFree86 3.3.1 xnest works.  Sources available from
ftp.xfree86.org or Linux types can grab

Remember, Linux isn't the enemy.  Micros**t is the enemy.
