I had an ne2000 in my alpha for about a week before I could buy a real card.. 
So far I've found that *most* of the pci hardware lying around the house seems
to work.  You might have to cut and paste some lines from i386's GENERIC into
your config though.

A few cards might go boom.. those should definately be reported, as they are
bugs in the drivers.
