I am attempting an installation of 1.4.1 from the 2 floppy set.
The machine is not lighting up the NIC. I can ping the NIC, I have a
known good cable
to the hub (10baseT only), the hub port light is on, but I can't ping
beyond the NIC or
ping in from another machine. From DU 4.0d, it worked (but that was a
year ago)
Any clues, things to try?
thanks,
Stuart Kreitman

possible related problem is that I can't boot this far on the tga2
graphics console,
when the second floppy starts (or the first?) the screen loses its text
mode and
shows a pattern of wierd music notes and rectangular blocks
all over the screen, they change when I hit <CR> a few times, then stop.
The SRM says:
ewa0_mode = twisted pair
At boot, it says:
de0: at pci0 dev 3 function 0
de0: interrupting at dec550 irq 8
de0: DEC21142 [10-100 Mb/s] pass 1.1
de0: address 00:00:f8:75:37:c7
de0: enabling 10baseT port
utility->sh-> ifconfig -a sez:
flags = 8c63 <UP, BROADCAST, NOTRAILERS, RUNNING, OACTIVE, SIMPLEX,
MULTICAST>
address: ...
media: Ethernet 10baseT
status: active
if I do "ifconfig de0 down; ifconfig de0 up" the flags change to:
<UP, BROADCAST, NOTRAILERS, RUNNING, SIMPLEX, MULTICAST>
