I have iterated my kernel configuration for quite some time now.
Compiling the kernel called ALPHA everything works fine and the system
comes up normally. However, why I try to boot a trimmed-down version
this happens:

scsibus1 at ncr1: 8 targets, 8 luns per target
eisa0 at pceb0
isa0 at pceb0
com0 at isa0 port 0x3f8-0x3ff irq 4: ns16550a, working fifo
com0: console

fatal kernel trap:

    trap entry = 0x2 (memory management fault)
    a0         = 0x90
    a1         = 0x1
    a2         = 0x0
    pc         = 0xfffffc00004619ec
    ra         = 0xfffffc00004a7d4c
    curproc    = 0xfffffc000054cfa0
        pid = 0, comm =

panic: trap
Stopped in at Debugger+0x4: ret zero,(ra)

Does anyone have idea of what this could be related to, so that I don't
have to go through every option with trial-and-error.

Unfortunaly I can't present my config file, since I changed it around a
bit and wasted it.
