First, thanks for all the suggestions offered so far!

OK - I found and reviewed the information in the "NetBSD ELF FAQ".  I have attempted (and I may not have gotten it right) to add the "--export-dynamic" flag while linking.  Running the program (cgoban) still results in the message:

Shared object "libX11.so.6" not found

I have built and run this program on other Unix flavors without any problem.

I'm still playing around with the make file, but would appreciate any suggestions on how to fix this.
