Wilko et al,
I tried to get in touch with the person who posted the original PC164
question on comp.sys.dec but the individual never got back to me or
posted any more on it.
In my case, I went and got some real 36bit mem, just like in my
other PC164 - that one works - and I am figuring out how to trouble
shoot the beast.
I have picked up 16MB 72pin simms - with 18 chips on each side!!
So this is real 36bit wide by 4Meg deep ram chips - the exact same
part number I have in the running PC164.
The config on the new, not quite working beast is:
PC164/500 (enerox box, 300watt, real power on/off by the button)
128MB (36bit)
No Keyboard
No mouse
No floppy
No HD
No video
Console terminal on serial port 1 (null modem to a PC running Telix)
set to 9600, no parity.
I have the PC164 Manual.
I get no beeps with this memory. (if I take out one simm or put in
a 32 bit simm, it beeps 6 times)
I get no output on the terminal (terminal works, runs fine on my 3K.
So, now I start trouble shooting it from there.
I am going to comb all of the archives and see what I get for trouble
shooting tips. I will post my approach and my success when I make the
beast
work.
bob

I think you need 36 bit memory on PC164
