Subject: DEC 3000/300 fast vs. non-fast SCSI mode

I'm running the exact same kernel on two different DEC 3000/300s. I get
the same boot up/probe messages (essentially) except I notice on one
system "tcds0: fast mode set for chip 0" is reported, but not on the
other. Should this be happening?

The essential differences between the two machines is that one is a
150 MHz 3000/300, and the other a 125 MHz 3000/300LX:

Is it appropriate for "fast mode" to be enabled on the 3000/300 and not
on the 3000/300LX?

(Is it coincidence that the 3000/300 system I'm using is acting flaky
[especially under heavy disk load] and the 3000/300LX is not?)

Cheers,

Paul.
