Kevin, and all---
Apparently, a 233MHz upgrade needs a serial ROM, of at least Version
0.5. The new hex code for the SROM is available, but you need an eprom
programmer. The OEM book does mention an "...Intel hex format code to
reprogram the existing serial ROM can be obtained over the Internet..."
Read on through this (shortened) discussion (if you like)...
David Woyciesjes (me):
...In the AXPpci OEM book, it mentions
"...Upgrade of 166 MHz boards to 233MHz operation requires Digital
Part Number EBPXU-AA upgrade kit (factory installable only). For 233 MHz
operation, the minimum firmware revision is Version 1.3. See Section F.2 for
details on how to obtain the latest firmware."
Wilko Bulte:
That is a new SROM eprom. You need V0.5 or later (if there
was ever a later version, I don't know)...
David Woyciesjes (me):
Well, in the OEM Design Guide, on page 2-24, footnote one mentions
"...Support for 64 MB SIMMs is available with installation of serial ROM
Version 0.4 or higher... <<<clip>>> ... Intel hex format code to
reprogram the existing serial ROM can be obtained over the Internet..."
With that, and the upgrade being only a new SROM, like you said,
there is a chance that the board I'm getting might have the new SROM.
Otherwise, I wonder where I can find that hex code program.
