A local Compaq engineer has given me the AS200 firmware upgrade file for an
older version, viz. AS200_V5_8.EXE which contained SRM v6.3-4, and
fortunately the flash ROMs took that. So, I conclude v7.0-9 uses more of
the ROMs than 6.3-4, including some bits which are faulty; and that the
circuitry which interfaces to them is OK. Maybe I'll try replacing one or
both of those chips.

I'm not out of the woods yet even if I stay with v6.3-4. Now, when the
machine is powered on with the console SRM variable set to 'serial' this is
printed on the console:

    ff.fe.fd.fc.fb.fa.f9.f8.f7.
nvram_get: Error reading NVRAM into mem. buffer. Err=4
    nnvram_init:nvram_get call returned err
    f6.f5.

    >>>

For some reason, when the console variable equals 'graphics' only the last
two lines appear on the workstation's monitor.

I've been able to install NetBSD 1.5.1 and all appears to be well until I
try to boot into multi-user mode. It keeps saying

Enter pathname of shell or RETURN for sh:

even though I've edited /etc/rc.conf and /etc/defaults/rc.conf as usual.
Any suggestions as to why that might be? What's the significance of the

    Unrecognized boot flag '0'.

line in the booting sequence (which I've appended to this message)?

If I can get this machine to work it will need more RAM than its current 16
MB. Would anyone care to suggest a supplier in Australia, or in the US who
takes orders over the Web? Oh, and a supplier of 28F020 Intel/Amd Flash
Memory?
