And I, another UNIX geek, agreeing with you.  VMS is a strong second
best; indeed, better in some respects (such as, as you point out,
its security model).

Heh.  Can you say SETPRV?  Or BYPASS? :-)  [Yes, I know it's not really
fair.  VMS has SETPRV and BYPASS, yes, but it also has finer-grained
permissions which UNIX doesn't have...though some of them, it's not
clear how to map into the UNIX model.  For example, TMPMBX would most
naturally map into the right to use pipe(), or perhaps
socketpair(AF_LOCAL) - but can you _imagine_ how crippling not having
that would be on UNIX?]
