The good news is I think I know why my Multia's suffering, and it's a
frequently enough encountered problem that it's documented

The bad news is that the 74F623 chip has a bit of brown in its center.

I don't know if the chip is failing or if it has already failed.  Can
someone more familiar with the specific problem describe the symptoms
of a failed 74F623?
