For reference:
http://gcc.gnu.org/egcs-1.1/
where it states:
September 3, 1998: We are pleased to announce the release of EGCS 1.1.
December 1, 1998: We are pleased to announce the release of EGCS 1.1.1.
March 15, 1999: We are pleased to announce the release of EGCS 1.1.2.
If you refer to:
http://gcc.gnu.org/releases.html
For a more comprehensive list of gcc release dates.
NetBSD 1.5 was released on December 6, 2000.
c.f.: http://www.netbsd.org/Releases/formal.html#previous
And hence was using a compiler that was one release branch back
from the gcc head.
