Problem seems to be the PCI-USB/Firewire card'Orange-Micro'(Firewire-USB
2.0) card has 4 USB and 3 firewire ports.Replaced this PCI card with an
'Adaptec #AUA-3121' card on the 164LX and the Pioneer DVR-A03
DVD/CD-read/writer is recognized and works in 'mplayer' playing dvd.
However bus speed is a problem...does Firewire promise up to'400Mbps"?
dvd is slow...much slower than internal pciide dvd player.

It does work but speed is a problem.
