using openssl...7b, on alpha 164lx, 1.6,1, trying to d oa compile I get 
two strange things -
1. it says configuring for sparc.
during the configure effort it says operating system 
alpha-whatever-netbsd.  Then it says configuring for sparc twice.  Hmmm.

2. it fails with error 1 and two reports after the config is complete. 
I issue a simple make and get error 1 ...here is the log:
