Does anyone have any idea on how to low-level format a IBM DFHS disk that
has 522 bytes/sector to a more useable 512 bytes/sector format? I've
tried scsictl, but without any luck. This is what happens if I try
formatting with "scsictl sd2 format 512"
current disk sector size: 522
/dev/rsd2c: Check Condition on CDB: 04 18 00 00 01 00
SENSE KEY: Illegal Request
ASC/ASCQ: Invalid Field In Parameter List
Additional Sense Information (byte 18 out...):
18: 0x00 0x00 0x01 0x34 0x00 0x00
24: 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00
I know that it's supposed to be possible to reformat the disk to 512
b/sec. I've tried several of these disks with the same result though.
Someone told me that the low level format utility in Adaptec's bios on
their controllers should be able to do the trick, but it's a bit difficult
to use in an Alpha though...;-)
