A while ago I experimented briefly and unsuccessfully with using a 
disk partitioned on a NetBSD/i386 machine in a NetBSD/alpha machine 
and vice versa [1], although that was with 1.5.2.

der Mouse suggested a possible technique to make it work [2].

Rowland's reply [2] showed it (alpha disk in i386 box) can be done if 
you're  tricky.
