I also found this in the kernel messages when the box rebooted.

cpu1: unable to issue `START' command

Which makes sense since the system was unable to stop the second CPU.

Is there any way to force a "cold" reboot when the system crashes as that 
seems to be the only way to stop the hung CPU. The only way I've found 
that works so far is to pull the plug and wait until the second LED on the 
power supply winks out.
