Configuring Serial Printer - DEC 3000 Model 700 / NetBSD V4.0

Greetings and please forgive what is probably an idiotic question.

I have been "playing" with NetBSD on the DEC 3000 for a few years now, and
I'm slowing learning how to configure the silly thing. UNIX has never been
my strong suit, so please bear with me...

I'm running a "server" model of the DEC 3000 / 700 with an antique VT-100
for the system console on ttyB1. Formerly, I had another terminal on ttyB0
and the system worked very well as a two-headed monster.

After acquiring an equally ancient daisy-wheel printer (Diablo HytyperII),
my thought was to connect this printer to ttyB0 and use it as a line
printer. I enabled lpd in the rc.conf file and created the following entry
for the printcap file:

lp|local line printer:\
       :sh:lp=/dev/ttyB0:br#9600:fs#06320:tr=\f:of=/usr/libexec/lpr/lpf\
       :sd=/var/spool/output/lpd:lf=/var/log/lpd-errs:

This was based on the existing entry for a Decwriter over a tty line.

The filter executable is present and accounted for. The spooling directory
has been created.

The only messages in the error log are as follows:

$ cat lpd-errs
Mar 25 16:33:21 paleo lpd[11259]: restarted
Mar 25 16:41:12 paleo lpd[307]: restarted
Mar 25 16:51:28 paleo lpd[307]: restarted
Mar 25 22:12:35 paleo lpd[307]: restarted
Nov 27 22:13:39 paleo lpd[307]: restarted
Nov 28 09:49:53 paleo lpd[2569]: restarted
Nov 28 09:52:02 paleo lpd[307]: restarted
Nov 29 11:18:53 paleo lpd[307]: restarted
Nov 29 13:24:15 paleo lpd[307]: restarted
$

Naturally, nothing is working (as far as printing goes) and I'm just
clueless enough that the MAN entries aren't overly helpful. I did check the
cable (wired properly as null modem) and even remembered to comment out the
entries in the ttys file so I wasn't tying up the port with getty.

Anybody willing to clue me in?

Thanks in advance.
