I unplugged some non-essential devices, and it boots now... perhaps the 
problem was the PS/2 keyboard that had been plugged in. The machine has a 
VGA card and keyboard, but I don't use them anymore; I access it over the 
serial console and ethernet. I had some junk laying on top of the keyboard, 
which may have held some keys down. Don't know if that would've kept it from 
booting though. In any case, everything seems to be fine now :)
