Right -- you'll find out if you check the SCR_GRAPHICS bit
on your current screen. Otherwise, there is no immediate
need for action.
Actually, one could do so if there was a better mechanism
to notify the X server. It is not there yet, but we shouldn't
assume that it will not happen eventually.

Generally agreed, but the kernel should be conservative
about assumptions.

That would be automatically happen with my proposal because
it wouldn't switch away at all, or under user control where
a "wsconscfg -g"/"wsconscfg -s" pair would get the same reault.

Right, but that's different -- in that case you don't have
a chance to talk to the X server.
