You can then boot from RAID1 boot from someplace else because of whatever but then you need to update the kernel there I create a script /.installkernel that takes the kernel from /usr/obj/right/path and puts it whre it belongs on that machine, /grub for some, special boot place for some, real root for others. THen I dont' need to try to remember and get it wrong.
