* (gcc) Support for mode-independent code (checking mode when we need to

* (gcc) Ensure 8-byte stack alignment on function entry

Uncertain:
* (gdb) Support ARM ELF

That looks pretty good.  Volunteers to test gdb and fix the compiler?
