Re: NetBSD on Orange Pi 5 (also Re: NetBSD on Rock 5B)

But, as far as I can tell, there's no UEFI for this board, nor u-boot for it in pkgsrc yet. So how would one boot this?

The Raxda Rock 5B is similar to the Orange Pi 5, so I tested the image here:

It boots!

Serial console, SD card and two of the USB ports work (as USB-2). I haven't tried GPIO or eMMC.

This is a good start! Not knowing how the sourcehut site works, I'm curious how many files need to be modified for this.

Performance is good, but it seems the Cortex A76 cores are only running at about the speed of 1.5 to 1.6 GHz (slightly faster than a Raspberry Pi 4's 1.5 GHz Cortex A72, a bit slower than a RockPro64's 1.8 GHz A72). I suppose we'll have to wait for CPU speed control to get the full 2.4 GHz.

A quick ffmpeg test shows it's a little faster (4.89 fps versus 4.33) than a 1.8 GHz 8 gig Pi 4 encoding to h.265 (it didn't go much above 400%).

I'm looking forward to testing this more :)

Thanks,
John Klos
