Two quick notes (well, one note and one question):

1) The built-in wifi is known to be flaky, and with some models, even in
   Linux, but I think you've come to that conclusion, too.

2) What're the CPU temperatures when running the flaky Pi at 1 GHz? Is it 
getting close to overheating / close to the temperature where it'd 
automatically throttle?
