I've been running RiscBSD 1.1 beta on a 540Mb IDE drive, which has never
formatted successfully with !HForm, which didn't bother me too much as I
was using the drive for RiscBSD only.
I'm looking to add a CD-ROM drive, and also to upgrade to RiscBSD 1.2
release pretty soon after the show (or whenever the CD-ROM becomes
available - I'd prefer having the set's as a snapshot off the site).
I understand that for !UnixFS to work is that it requires an ADFS header
on the drive.
Heres my system details:
RiscPC710 (hopefully soon to be StrongARMed)
8+32Mb DRAM, 2Mb VRAM, 812Mb IDE that came fitted when bought,
and a 540Mb IDE that I've added afterwards. I'll hopefully be getting a
RapIDE32 and x6 CD-ROM at the show, and need to use !UnixFS to transfer
the sets onto the 540Mb HD.
Heres most of the output from !HForm:
HARD DISC FORMATTER (v2.44 24 May 95)
Format which drive (4-7)? 5
Drive 5 is an ADFS drive
IDE drive ADFS:5 identifies itself as:
Description: SAMSUNG SHD-30560A (Apollo-5) SSI
Firmware version: BF1015
Configuration: 1086 cylinders, 16 heads and 63 sectors/track
This drive supports the LBS (Logical Block Address) option
This drive does not currently have a valid ADFS format.
This drive type does not match any of the standard drives known by this
program.
Provision..... then the options 1-9 with 9 being OTHER which I chose.
Sectors per track? 63
Heads? 16
Cylinders? 1086
Drive parameter init flag? 1
Drive LBA flag? 1
Parking cylinder? 1085
On the defects list, I chose not to add any defects.
Format or initialise? F
Soak test (long, short, none)? N
Bootable? Y
It then takes a while to format, counting up and reaches 1085
After a couple of seconds it gives the error:
HForm failed: Number too big at line 1780
Anyone any ideas? Being able to use UnixFS would be pretty handy..
Thanks.
Rich
