I've now got linux to work properly on my Pentiyuk, but being stupid
created a user with sod all priviliages, now root cannot create users
anymore, still.....
My 386 now runs mini-linux which is ok....ish....
But I still can't get the RPC to work with BSD, I've included a copy of
the message I sent you before, JIC.

Subject: Help - Return of the ....
Morning......
I'm still having problems....
someone sent me a uuencoded version of the 1.2 bootloader and that
de-archived fine (weird!), I downloaded the inst-12.fs from the 1.2
release directory (the 1.44MB version) which I presume does not need
de-archiving (I looked at it in ZAP and there is readable text in a
similar vain to the 1.1 installer, so.....).
The 1.2 booter works fine, with the 1.1 installer it moans about not being
able to find something in the rc directory which is ok as I presume the
1.2 installer has other scripts, etc.
The 1.2 installer with the 1,2 booter simply hangs just before it would
normally (I assume) go into the 'do you wish to install ?' blurb.
1.1 booter and 1.1 installer still run ok but I still get all the error
messages with it trying to copy all the stuff to the ramdisk.
ALL OF THE ABOVE is done with the 3598 kernel as later ones (4444 & 4554)
give me a grey scrolling brick screen after it reports the various virtual
terminals on vt220VIDC whatever, both of these kernels are over the 1MB
size and look similar to the working kernel (text layout within the file,
etc).
disklabel -r /dev/rwd0c produces

the only thing I can think of is that the type is set to ST506 rather than
IDE but I may be jumping to incorrect conclusions....
I have run the bbs programs till it comes out of my ears, but to no avail,
the system still will not recognise the drive - Conner IDE 850MB with ~350
given over to BSD.
I appreciate you havn't time to read this, but advice and assistance would
be met with great cheers and virtual money polymorphising into real ale
(of the virtual kind).
