  How about a solaris type idea?

  The ownership of the device is set whenever anyone logs in at the 
console? (/dev/audio does the same).

  Under RiscBSD we have virtual consoles, which could cause security 
problems if different people log into different virtual consoles though....

  No idea how this is acheived under Solaris, or how it would be done 
under RiscBSD, but it's a bright idea anyway :)
