If I remember the default option is to create makefiles which compile
non-debug versions. This didn't appear to happen - not sure why, I'm
fairly new to this. I had to manually remove `-g' from the Makefiles.
Obviously there must be a much better solution. I couldn't get the link
to work with debug versions, even with 300Mb swap space ! Non debug
versions were much much smaller.
