Ok - I think the last post of mine didn't get through. But the situation
hasn't improved even tho' I've looked into it - kernel panic when RPCINST
gets to 'podulebus' stage of bootup. Still happens when I remove my SCSI II
card (only expansion card).

I loaded the symbol table, typed 'trace' and this is what was produced.

_Debugger (_Debugger+0x10)
_panic (_panic+0x14)
_data_about_handler (_data_abort_handler+0x10)
_vfs_opv_init_default (_vfs_opv_init_default+0x10)

Bad frame pointer  0xf00eeb74

Please help if you can
