I reread the readme and what it says is
--- start of readme.first ---
These X sets are based on NetBSD X sources of 7 July 1998, with the
supplied diffs in xsrc.diffs.gz (excepting xarm33). Future arm32 X binary
releases will be based on merged sources, with no diffs necessary.
The binaries will run on any NetBSD/arm32 system from 1.3 onward (a
-current user binary set is not necessary).
The xserver set includes the X server used by the Digital NC (aka Shark),
with the IGS CyberPro chip level driver.
VERY, VERY, VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: The Xarm33 server is inside the
"xarm33.tgz" file. To use it, you will need to set up a symlink
/usr/X11R6.3 -> /usr/X11R6 BEFORE extracting the xarm33 set so that it
will see the files from the rest of the sets (Xarm33 looks in
/usr/X11R6.3).

Now I know who - tv is
To me it does not say you shouldnt use xserver on a riscos box,
it includes the stuff for shark, but that does not indicate that there
is not stuff for riscos.
Anyhow sounds like that could be a part of my problem.
- I removed the installation
rm -r /usr/X11R6
And reinstalled again without using xserver.tar
- I noticed that there was no X symlink in /usr/X11R6.3/bin
so I created one to point to the Xarm-33 file
startx
:-)
Gave me a quick flash of the X start up banner
(I saw Mark Brinicombe and other names)
But then it reverted back to the text consoel with

:-(
Now /usr/X11R6.3/lib/X11/rgb does not exist
and as a matter of interest is not in xserver.tar either
The fonts are definitely there

I changed the symlink of /usr/X11R6.3/X to Xarm instead of Xarm-33 and
the same thing happens.
Seems like I am makeing some progress but still have a way to go.
Hmm, wonder what I have done wrong now?
It just occurred to me that the symlink thing when unpacking the archives
could be a problem,
does it mean that all the archives except xarm33 should be
unpacked, then the symlink set and xarm unpacked?
Maybe I will try that, tomorrow.
