Subject: Many broken packages use Scheme -- weird!

So, I've been trying to build a fairly complete set of packages on my
shark now that it has a disk drive.
I've noticed something funny: almost any package that includes a Scheme
interpreter (a surprising number, these days) Just Won't Work.
GIMP doesn't work -- it tries to dump its procedure database and segfaults.
SCSH doesn't work, in a very analogous way. SCM builds but dumps core
(segv's, IIRC) when run. I haven't tried guile yet.
"Abuse", a game which includes a lisp interpreter, can't load its own
compiled functions.
Is there something unusual about the arm32 architecture that would be
particularly likely to show up bugs in a Scheme interpreter?
