Never tried using an backup device that was not SCSI.
Not all PCI SCSI cards are supported /tested on the arm platform.
Personally I use Adaptec and Qlogic. I believe the advanSys ones have also
been used.

The scsi code has drivers for standard tape drivers

I have a Yamaha 4x CDR on an EBSA285 + Qlogic 1040 SCSI card that I use
for some archiving.

Never played with this on a computer.

I have a Segate DDS-3 DAT drive on a CATS system with an AHA2940 SCSI card
that I find works well for tape backups.
The Sony DDS-3 drives also appear to be quite good though I have only used
those on i386 machines but that should not make a difference.
